Growing up is tough enough when you’re in middle school. It’s even worse when you’re bullied, in love with a former best friend, and still dealing with the loss of a parent.
Sam “Bottoms” Declan is an introverted young man who keeps to himself. Still pining for Valerie McCall, she acts as if he doesn’t exist. Still not over the death of his father, Sam bears constant witness to his mother’s depression as she also recovers from the loss. Life for Sam consists of going through the motions, unsure of who he is or who he should be. Complicating matters is Brody “Breather” Butcher, the school bully who torments Sam and Tai “Mouse” Yeoh.
All that changes when their middle school is attacked by a military force from the future. Kidnapped, they are taken into a dystopian future with no hope of returning home.
Their rescue rests on one person: Social Studies teacher, Mr. Rustam, who may or may not be a secret agent. But when he disappears, it’s up to Sam and the others to put differences aside in order to stay alive.
