Featured Interview With Yvonne Walus
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
“It’s complicated”, LOL. I was raised on two continents: in Poland and in South Africa. And now I live in New Zealand, which is nowhere near, on yet another continent. I’ve had pets all my life, currently it’s a miniature French poodle and two cats.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love books. I attempted my first short story when I was 10. Mercifully, I’ve mislaid it.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
Terry Pratchett is probably my favourite author of all time. Alas, he didn’t write anything in my favourite genre, which is crime fiction. As far as crime fiction goes, my influences are suburban thrillers like those of Harlan Coben, quirky murder mysteries by Minette Walters, settings by Jane Harper and characters by Liane Moriarty (Big Little Lies is her most famous book).
Tell us a little about your latest book?
You know, it’s tricky to talk about my latest thriller, “Serial Wives”. I spent several years writing it, changing the words, making sure I got the message just right. I wanted to say so many things: that being a wife is sometimes as hard a job as being a call girl (and you don’t get paid), that mothers and daughters have stormy relationships no matter how much love they share, that not all prostitutes are drug addicts, that parents would do anything (and then some!) for their children. I wanted to say all that, and I wanted the book to be an easy, enjoyable read. Hope I got it right!
