Featured Interview With Misty Hayes
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I’ve has always called Texas home, but I have a passion for world travel.
Before taking up writing, I have had a long career in law enforcement. Besides the self-torture of writing books, I also love the self-torture of running. I am currently working on book three of my young adult trilogy in ‘The Blood Dagger’ series.
When not writing, I enjoy reading any books by Jim Butcher, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Joe Hill, and J.K. Rowling. A lot of author’s write about pets on their bio’s… I just have a rescue parakeet named Peeta (As in the Hunger Games). I found him pecking at concrete in the parking lot of my jogging trail during the sweltering heat of the Texas summer. It can get hot enough to melt tar on the roads, so I figured the little guy needed some help.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I think the that the same time I started breathing was the same time I started reading… okay, maybe I’m not that smart, but I remember reading Stephen King while still in middle school.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I started off reading Stephen King and then I got fascinated by true crime and the Italian Mafia, so I started reading The Godfather and any books by Joseph Pistone – he was a former FBI agent who infiltrated the mob for six years, deep undercover. Then I had this Silence of the Lambs craze and I had to read everything I could about Clarice Starling – she was such a strong female lead to look up to at the time. I was also an agent Scully fan. After being in police work for fifteen years, I now gravitate toward reading anything fantasy, paranormal, sci-fi and supernatural. Writers like Jim Butcher, Terry Goodkind, Rainbow Rowell, Cassandra Clare, J.K. Rowling, Dean Koontz and Stephen King still enthrall me.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
The Outcasts is about an incessantly teased teen, Larna Collins, who gets thrown into the paranormal world by attempting to find her absentee father. With nothing but his journal to help guide her, a tenacious nerd sets out to track down her father all the way from Texas to a small parish in England. She ends up being thrust into a world she never knew existed – one full of powerful vampires, strange allies, and mystical relics. But the outcome is nothing you’d expect. Could this explain her father’s disappearance? Or was placing her in the center of danger her dad’s master plan all along?
