Featured Interview With Jacqueline Lucia
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
Hi there! I was raised in a quaint little New England farming town. I still live in New England – and I love it here, but I’ve branched out of the the tiny town that I grew up in. But I can’t imagine living anywhere else except here. The seasons are beautiful and the people are so down to earth. In fact, I’m a huge Red Sox fan!
I do have pets – two beautiful cats.
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I think my fascination was more with the power of words, in general – written and spoken. So, it was very natural for me to fall in love with the art of writing. It is an art and it is a powerful thing – it can do beautiful and wondrous things. It can be freeing when the writer is willing to brave his or her own truths.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I’m inspired by truth and rawness. I’m inspired by everyday heroes. I’m inspired by the beauty that surrounds us daily – the same beauty that can be so easy to miss in our everyday rushed pace.
I tend to read editorials and opinions and blogs or stories about people that have inspired others or have overcome some obstacles in their life. I’ll pick up anything that I think is authentic – I’m not married to anything in particular. I guess I’m a bit of an eclectic.
Tell us a little about your latest book?
Making Ends Meet with a Popcorn Popper was inspired by events in my own life – during a very difficult time in my life not too long ago.
A few years ago, my life was turned inside out and upside down and I needed to figure out how I was going to get out from under it all. Overnight, I was destitute and with two small children to feed, clothe, and keep warm. My husband wasn’t who I thought he was at all- and he was also soon to be out of the picture completely. There wasn’t time to cry or grieve – I just had to act swiftly so that we wouldn’t end up hungry or homeless.
This book is a collection of resources and tips I gathered during that devastating time in my life. It’s also a collection of tricks I learned along the way, as well as the mindset I had to adapt to get to the other side of my troubles. The book is written from a girlish perspective with some humor sprinkled throughout and some anecdotal bits – …after all, what’s the popcorn popper about anyway? Once you read the book, you get a glimpse about what it takes to make ends meet – and it isn’t just money – sometimes it’s the things you least expect that will keep you going.
