Featured Interview With Carol Kravetz
Tell us a little about yourself. Where were you raised? Where do you live now?
I was born and raised in Northern Ireland, emigrated to Canada in my late 20’s, then to the USA in my late 30’s. I always wanted to return to Northern Ireland and got my wish 6 years exactly ago. In Canada, I started writing and, after the first book was finished, I found I had an idea for another story, then another, then another, until I had completed seven full length novels. They are in a series, now called The Bathville Books and the first in the series “Murder is Just the Beginning” came out in print in February 2017. The second in the series “The Revenge” came out in October 2017 and you can find both on Amazon all over the world. I’m working hard on updating the third in the series, “The Consequences” to hopefully be available in the summer of 2018. I enjoy writing very much and, although I work full time in the Education Authority in Northern Ireland, I still make the time to write. I worked in both Canada and the United States as a medical secretary to various medical professionals and enjoyed my work there very much, as well as the life experiences I was fortunate to have. My husband, Mark, is American and he loves living in Northern Ireland – except for the rain! He is responsible for being my publicist and has been able to book appearances for me in local libraries to help promote my novels. My dream is to one day own a house by the sea, where I can sit and do my writing as I look out over the beautiful seascapes. I don’t have any children, or pets, unfortunately, but if I had the former, I would teach them to read and to enjoy reading as much as I do
At what age did you realize your fascination with books? When did you start writing?
I started reading books when I was about 6 years old. I always had a book in my hand when I was growing up and when I was first married and living in Canada, in the early 1990s, that’s when I started writing. I wanted to one day be a published author and my dream was realised a year ago.
Who are your favorite authors to read? What is your favorite genre to read. Who Inspires you in your writings?
I adore Stephen King and I love reading anything horror (but not gore). I also enjoy police procedural novels and Stephen King, Stuart MacBride and Peter James have been my inspiration for many years
Tell us a little about your latest book?
It is called The Revenge and is the second book in the series “The Bathville Books”. It is a series of seven novels and book 2 starts off roughly about 6 months after the first one left off. It is about the same main four characters, 4 police detectives, two of them are kidnapped by a bad character from one of the 4’s past. He is intent on revenge and will stop at nothing to get it, even if it means murder. The first book introduces the characters, the second one shows how their relationships are developing. The second one, although slightly longer than the first one, only required about two re-writes, I loved the story from the get go and didn’t want it changed in anyway, except to update it to the 21stcentury. It took me about 6 months to write out in long hand and then transfer to a flash drive. I made it grittier than the first story, less romance, more police work and wanted to engage the reader with every page. I think I managed to achieve that.
