Passionately written by Jacob Grovey, ‘Dance of the Broken’ tells the poignant and inspirational story of a young black girl who dreams of being a ballerina, despite society’s opinion that she’s cut from the wrong cloth. Elise’s story is a microcosm of the adversity and negative messages that plague the minds of millions of young girls; leaving them with the belief that their dreams are out of reach. But as Grovey proves through his narrative, every young woman is a powerhouse of potential, beauty and success.

Jacob began writing early in life. Although he saw people valued his words as early as the age of eight, he still found himself battling with his own confidence and self-esteem. He questioned if he could be a writer because he didn’t see many writers who looked like him. After stepping away from writing for a while, he realized writing was not just what he liked to do, it was what he was destined to do.
Now, Jacob finds himself not only writing for audiences of all ages, but speaking to them as well. Jacob can be found speaking to the youth about following their dreams, as well as trying to motivate and inspire teenagers and adults. In 2016, Jacob even won the Diversity in Literature Rising Star Award.
In addition to writing, Jacob enjoys spending time with his wife, listening to music (and playing it on his Trumpet), using/learning about new technology, and watching cartoons (because you’re never too old to be a kid).
